Website

Website will be based on a Content Management System (CMS).
While there is a large number of CMSs, the two best Open Source CMSs are Drupal and Joomla.   As the Author of this document knows Drupal best, the current plan is to use Drupal.

Drupal has a good Forum/Bulletin Board integrated as part of it but it still isn’t as good as a specialised Bulletin Board such as PHPBB.

If we use a specialised one then it is a separate program and there is no integration of the User Names/Passwords etc to the CMS.  This isn’t too bad as the majority of the people who will become a member of the Bulletin Board will not need to be a member of the site.  The main ones who need to be a member of the site are those that need write access to the wiki or are otherwise adding content to the site.
On the other hand, it would be an advantage to this project is to allow readers to add comment directly to each page of the website.  We could allow any guest to add comment but this is almost certainly going to have problems of spam etc.  Requiring separate logon and
Project Name and Domain (.org)

Humaniser.org

I have gone with humanise.org as the initial name.  Perhaps the product of the project should be called ‘The Humaniser’

Good Aspects
-    It is a single word
-    It is an actual dictionary word
-    It emphasises the humanitarian aspect of the project
-    The word relates the project to the correct technical term for the type of mine finding that the project is aimed at.  The correct technical name for locating mines after a war is ‘Humanitarian Demining’ whereas the correct technical name for the military’s mine location needed in war time is ‘Breaching’.  Interesting, as the military have different requirements for breaching, the project’s results are not as likely to be as useful for breaching.
-    It doesn’t tie the project to being a mine detector or even to being a metal detector.  As noted in the objectives, there are a number of other possible uses and most of them relate well to the word humanise.
-    When you read all the definitions (see below) for the word, a lot of the definitions relate well to the project

Bad Aspects
It is a long name, a little boring and perhaps harder to remember.  There isn’t any fun such as a pun or cuteness in the name like so many other open source project names.  The word is commonly spelt in a different way (humanize) and the other spelling is better known to many.

Would it be better to have YAMD.org ?
(Yet Another Mine Detector or Yet Another Metal Detector)
As far as I have found, humanise is the first Open Source project of its type so while there are other mine detectors and other metal detectors,  I prefer not to have the ‘Yet Another’ tag.

Other available domain names that have similar advantages (not tying it to mine detecting and emphasising the humanitarian aspects include conzern.org, conzerned.org, conserned.org, and juztice.org.  Humanise was the only correctly spelt dictionary word.
